New Delhi: The highly anticipated movie Laal Singh Chaddha, starring Aamir Khan, is getting ready for release. Trolls are asking for a "boycott" of the movie, and as of late, it has been coming up on the trends list.

In a news conference on Tuesday, Aamir Khan responded to the uproar. ANI news agency cited him as saying, "If I have hurt anyone by any means, I regret it. I don't want to hurt anyone. If someone doesn't want to watch the film, I'd respect their sentiment." Advait Chandan's Laal Singh Chaddha is an authorised remake of the Hollywood movie Forrest Gump from 1994. Kareena Kapoor plays his love interest and Aamir plays the title character.

Advait Chandan, the film's director, previously hit back against those who claimed that trolls were "paid" to draw attention to the movie, NDTV reported.

In a humorous Instagram story, he responded, "I am told there are people being paid to troll Aamir Sir. This is deeply upsetting to hear and it's outright unfair. Why have I been trolling him for free?" and added the hashtag #PayEveryTroll.

Aamir Khan's 2015 interview, in which he claimed that his then-wife Kiran Rao urged that they leave India due to "growing intolerance," sparked calls for a boycott a while back.

On August 11, Laal Singh Chaddha will be released. It has been under development for more than 15 years and features Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya as well. The movie was co-produced by Viacom18 Studios and Aamir Khan's Aamir Khan Productions.
