Nomadland wins big in BAFTA 2021; Anthony Hopkins overtakes Adarsh Gourav

London: "Nomadland", starring Frances McDormand, won big winning four trophies at the 74th Academy for Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards at Royal Albert Hall. In the ceremony held on Sunday, Anthony Hopkins overtook Indian actor Adarsh Gourav, nominated for his role in "The White Tiger", and won the Best Actor. "Nomadland" won Best Film, Best Actress (Frances McDormand), Best Cinematography and Best Director (Chloe Zhao).

Hopkins, the 83-year-old veteran, won for his performance in "The Father", while many expected late Chadwick Boseman to win the Best Actor for his role in "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom".

While "The White Tiger" lost out in Best Adapted Screenplay and film's writer-director Ramin Bharani was in contention in the category, Florian Zeller and Christopher Hampton won the category for "The Father".

The animated film "Soul" won Best Animation, and Jon Batiste, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross won the trophy for Best Original Score for the movie.

Emerland Fennell directed comedy thriller "Promising Young Woman" won Outstanding British Film and Original Screenplay. Yuh-Jung Young, Korean Actress, won the Best Supported Actress for her role in "Minari", and Daniel Kaluuya won the Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Judas and the Black Messiah". "My Octopus Teacher" won the Best Documentary and "Sound of Metal" won the Best Editing. Renowned director Ang Lee won the BAFTA Fellowship award.

Actress Bukky Bakray won the EE BAFTA Rising Star. The Danish film "Another Round", directed by Thomas Vinterberg, won the Film Not IN The English Language award.

Indian actress Priyanka Chopra, among Sophie Cookson, Phoebe Dynevor, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Hugh Grant, Richard E. Grant, Tom Hiddleston, Felicity Jones, Jonathan Pryce, Rose Byrne, Anna Kendrick and Renee Zellweger, was a presenter at the award night.

Liam Pyne and Celeste performed as part of the award night.
