Netflix to stream The Witcher spinoff 'Blood Origin' on Christmas day
text_fieldsNetflix Tudum 2022 is dropping news of exciting titles one after one. The latest on the list is a spinoff series 'Blood Origin' to the popular high fantasy show The Witcher. It will be streaming on the OTT platform on December 25.
The Witcher is one of the most popular shows on the platform but the team is known for making the fans wait for the next seasons. The first season was released in December 2019 and the second season in December 2021. The third season is expected to air in the summer of 2023.
However, the team has been delivering spinoffs to keep the fans occupied. An animated origin story film The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf was released in August 2021.
The Witcher: Blood Origin is a prequel miniseries set 1200 before the events of the main show. The four episodes will depict the creation of the first Witcher and the events leading to the "Conjunction of the Spheres" - the event that affected the whole multiverse and trapped unnatural creatures like ghouls and vampires in this dimension. The show will also explore the ancient Elven civilisation that makes brief appearances in the original show.
The prequel series stars Sophia Brown as Elle, a warrior of the queen's guard who leaves to become a travelling musician; Michelle Yeoh as Scian, the last member of a nomadic tribe of sword-elves who is on a mission to retrieve a blade stolen from her people; and Laurence O'Fuarain as Fjall, a man born into a clan of warriors sworn to protect a king, but instead sets out in need of vengeance.
