Mumbai: Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has approached the Bombay High Court with a habeas corpus plea to get information on his two children who are living with his estranged wife.

The wife and children - a 12-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son - were living in Dubai for some time and later moved to India. The plea said the three of them are UAE residents and Siddiqui got an email from the school saying the children have not been attending classes. The plea also said that the mother came to India in November 2022 without the children.

The actor alleged that some third person has taken the children out of Dubai. A division bench of Justice Ajey S Gadkari and Justice Prakash D Naik heard the plea and told the actor to speak with the estranged wife. They suggested that the parents try to amicably resolve their issues when it comes to the education of their minor children, reported The Indian Express.

"There are no other proceedings pending except for her plea seeking quashing of the complaint by the actor's mother," advocate Pradeep Thorat said.

Advocate Rizwan Siddiquee, representing the estranged wife, said the children are in India with their mother. They also want to study online and enrol in India. They do not wish to leave their mother and go back to Dubai. He added that the mother is looking at options for continuing their education.

The bench asked the mother to inform the court by next week what has been decided about the children's education. The next hearing date is on March 3.
