Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu says she has celiac disease after being body-shamed
text_fieldsNew Delhi: After recently being body-shamed and called "fat" online, Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu revealed on stage that she suffers from Celiac disease.
At the event in Chandigarh, Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu said, "I am one of the individuals who was bullied first for being too thin and now they bully me for being fat."
I cannot eat wheat flour or many other things because of my Celiac disease, she said.
"No one knows I have Celiac disease. I am unable to eat wheat flour and other things," she said.
Hernaaz Kaur Sandhu also said that she has always loved her body and added, "I believe that no matter what shape and size my body is, I love myself."
At Lakme Fashion Week, Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu wore a gown with a halter neck for the Shivan and Naresh show and paired it with a pair of John Jacobs sunglasses.
A number of people have trolled Harnaaz for her weight gain because of the photos and videos. One has written, "Wow the rolls in the back." Another has written, "Plus size realness." "Have you gained some weight?" another has asked.
As an autoimmune illness, celiac disease is brought on when the body's immune system attacks its own tissues.
A gluten-induced autoimmune response can lead to malnutrition, bone loss, neurological damage, and even cancer.
Both weight gain and weight loss are possible with celiac disease, which is also associated with long-term digestive issues.
