Marvel's Iron Man Robert Downey Jr to return to MCU as Dr Victor Van Doom
text_fieldsThe Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony Russo, are returning to Marvel Studios for the upcoming superhero team-up films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, the company said during Marvel's Comic-Con Hall H presentation. Robert Downey Jr.'s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to play Dr Victor Van Doom was also announced along with this news.
Robert Downey Jr. played Iron Man, often known as Tony Stark, in the 2008 movie that launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Downey Jr.'s tenure with the MCU came to a temporary end when his character died in the 2018 movie Avengers: Endgame.
The Russo Brothers said at the presentation on Saturday that they needed to find the right actor before moving on with a second batch of Avengers flicks. At that point, Dr. Doom appeared on stage as a man wearing a steel mask, cloak, and green clothes. It turned out to be none other than Downey Jr. after unmasking, the New Indian Express reported.
Michael Waldron is writing the scripts for both this upcoming Avengers movie and the sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars. Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled for release in May 2027, while Avengers: Doomsday is aiming for a May 2026 release.
