Legendary Malayalam classic 'Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha' gets a re-release date
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: The remastered version of the legendary Malayalam classic, Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha, penned by the celebrated Malayalam writer MT Vasudevan and directed by Hariharan, is all to release in Theatres on February 7. The re-release is also set as a tribute to the recently parted MT.
Originally released in 1989, the re-release of the 34-year-old Mammootty starrer classic, which became a milestone in Malayalam and Indian cinema, will be released in 4K resolution and Dolby Atmos sound.
Mammootty, his co-cast Suresh Gopi, and veteran actor Mohanlal released the movie’s re-release poster on Sunday.
The story is based on the medieval ballads of Chekavars (warriors) from northern Kerala, and the central character is Chanthu, who is traditionally depicted as a traitor. However, MT overhauls the character, claiming that Chandu is a misunderstood “Chakavar”, and the story is narrated from his perspective.
The movie had an ensemble cast such as Madhavi, Balan K Nair, etc., in addition to Suresh Gopi and Mammootty. The film's technical team includes K Ramachandra Babu as the cinematographer and M.S. Mani as the editor, with a musical score composed by Bombay Ravi. The film received critical acclaim, securing four National Film Awards, including Best Actor for Mammootty and Best Screenplay for MT Vasudevan Nair, as well as eight Kerala State Film Awards.
