Chennai: Actor Sathyaraj openly said that he would not act in the Tamil film based on the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also responded that ideologically, he is a 'Periyarist'.

"No one has ever approached me to play the role of Prime Minister Modi. The news is new to me. This news has been spread by someone deliberately. Legendary actor MR Radha was an atheist, but he played theist roles in many films. So, I will think about whether there is an opportunity to play the character of PM Modi." India Glitz quoted the actor.

There were reports in the news media that Sathyaraj was playing Modi's role.

Sathyaraj's explanation came after Congress MP Karti Chidambaram and others criticized it. Meanwhile, leaders from the BJP came forward saying that Sathyaraj should not be given the role of Modi.

In 2007, Sathyaraj acted in the biopic of social reformer Periyar. It received a good response.

There have already been many biopics of Prime Minister Modi's life story. In 2019, the biographical film 'PM Narendra Modi' starring Vivek Oberoi, was released. There is a move to make a biopic in Tamil with the aim of increasing the image in the Dravidian land where there is an anti-Modi wave.

Actor Sathyaraj's fame grew countrywide after his part in SS Rajamouli's 'Baahubali' as Katappa. He started his career in films playing negative roles in Tamil films. Later he started playing lead roles. Through his career, he was featured in multiple languages including Malayalam and Hindi.
