Offbeat: A new row has emerged following the release of a new music video by Indian-origin rapper Genesis Yasmine Mohanraj, in which she allegedly dressed like a Hindu goddess and used a Christian cross in a disrespectful way, News 18 reported.

The rapper, also known as Tommy Genesis, painted her body in blue and wore gold jewellery and a red bindi.

In the video, the rapper could be seen licking the cross and posing with it bear her backside, and this upset people of both Hindu and Christian faiths, News 18 writes.

On social media, many have criticised the music video, calling it “blasphemy” and accusing Genesis of being disrespectful for gaining attention. “Cheap stunt” to go viral, called some users. A section of users accused her of intentionally provoking religious communities.

Genesis is a Canadian citizen with Indian roots. She was born in Vancouver and has a mixed background of Tamil and Swedish. She is known for her experimental style, and her works explore themes of gender, identity, and sexuality.
