The much-anticipated sequel to the 1997 war epic Border has officially gone into production.

Titled Border 2, the film is helmed by director Anurag Singh and features an ensemble cast including Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty in pivotal roles.

The makers shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse on Instagram, showcasing the clapboard from the set and revealing the film’s release date—January 23, 2026.

Their post read: “The cameras are rolling for Border 2! With Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty leading the charge, this Anurag Singh directorial, powered by cinematic legends Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, promises action, drama, and patriotism like never before. Mark your calendars!”

Building on the legacy of JP Dutta’s original Border, the sequel promises to deliver an emotionally charged narrative packed with gripping drama and high-octane action. According to reports, the film will be set against a backdrop of patriotism and bravery, exploring themes of sacrifice and camaraderie.

Back in September, Sunny Deol announced the sequel on the 27th anniversary of the original film's release. He teased the project with the words: “Ek fauji apne 27 saal purane waade ko pura karne, aa raha hai phirse. India’s biggest war film, Border 2.”

While the original Border was directed by JP Dutta and depicted the heroic Battle of Longewala during the India-Pakistan War of 1971, the sequel brings a new creative vision. JP Dutta will serve as a producer on the film, joined by his daughter Nidhi Dutta under the JP Films banner, and Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar of T-Series.

The 1997 blockbuster featured an all-star cast including Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, and Tabu, alongside Sunny Deol. It became an iconic tale of valor and sacrifice, earning a place in the hearts of audiences nationwide.
