Naseeruddin Shah has been in the film industry for the past five decades and is known for his versatile acting skills. The actor is also known for being a vocal critic of the ruling party.

Amid the ongoing debate around the movie The Kerala Story, Shah had recently accused it of being a propaganda film and shared why he would not watch the movie.

The actor has also revealed during an interview that he had a fight with Neeraj Pandey, the director of his movie, A Wednesday, a 2008 crime drama.

The film A Wednesday received several accolades owing to its twisted plot. Apart from Naseeruddin Shah, the movie also had Anupam Kher, Jimmy Shergil and Aamir Bashir.

Shah spoke about “hidden meaning” in the film which was directed by Pandey. He said that all the four terrorists in the movie were shown to be Muslims, even though the film was trying to deliver the message that terrorism and hate don’t belong to any particular community or religion.

“There was a hidden message in it. All four terrorists were Muslims. I even asked Neeraj if it was deliberate. I asked him why they didn’t have a Tamilian also? He said there’s nothing political in this”, he said.

“There was no Naxal, No Maoist or from the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam), all four of them, Muslims”, Shah added.

During an interview with Indian Express, Shah had said that hate against Muslims has become ‘fashionable’.

“The kind of stuff that’s pure, undisguised propaganda is being lapped up and it’s a reflection of the zeitgeist of the times. Muslim hating is fashionable these days, even among educated people. It’s what the ruling party has very cleverly tapped into this nerve. We talk about secular this, democracy that, so why are you introducing religion into everything?”, the actor said while talking about propaganda.

Nasseruddin Shah was last seen in the web series Taj: Reign of Revenge, also starring Aashim Gulati, Saqib Saleem, Siddharth Nigam and Vivek Dahiya along with others and is currently streaming on ZEE5. Season two dropped on June 2.
