Amazon Prime Video enters into film production; Takes up Akshay Kumar's 'Ram Setu' as its first venture
text_fieldsMumbai: Amazon Prime Video India on Wednesday tweeted on their official account that The OTT giant are foraying into film production, and the first film to be co-produced by the banner is the Akshay Kumar-starrer Ram Setu. Cape of Good Films, Abundantia Entertainment, Lyca Productions will be teaming up with Prime on the project.
"So excited to announce our first co-production -- #RamSetu -- a film which is a bridge between generations past, present and future! Looking forward to bringing this story to y'all with an exemplary cast and dream team! @akshaykumar @Asli_Jacqueline @Nushrratt @Abundantia_Ent," the tweet read.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh also confirmed the news with a tweet. He wrote: "BIGGG NEWS... #AMAZON GETS INTO FILM PRODUCTION IN #INDIA... #Amazon forays into film production in #India... Will co-produce #RamSetu... Stars #AkshayKumar... Directed by Abhishek Sharma."
Akshay Kumar is all set to commence shooting for "Ram Setu" from Thursday. The film will be shot at multiple locations with a major portion being in Mumbai.
Jacqueline Fernandes and Nushrratt Bharrucha are also reportedly in the cast of the film, which is about the mythical bridge that Lord Ram built to span the ocean between India and Sri Lanka in the quest to rescue his wife Sita. Abhishek Sharma will be directing the film. Akshay Kumar is reportedly playing the role of an archaeologist.
Akshay, along with director Abhishek Sharma and creative producer Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi, will fly to Ayodhya on March 18 for the mahurat shot of the film.
