text_fieldsChennai: A businessman was arrested here on Wednesday for allegedly using vulgar language and trying to behave in an “unpleasant manner” with actress Amala Paul while she was rehearsing for an upcoming event to be held in Malaysia.
The man identified as Alagesan from Kottivakkam on the outskirts of Chennai was arrested by West Mambalam police here based on a complaint by the actress.
Amala Paul visited the Mambalam police station and registered a complaint. She said she was taking part in a dance rehearsal in a studio in T. Nagar for an event to be held in Malaysia to promote women’s empowerment.
“When I had gone to do dance rehearsal, a man spoke to me unpleasantly, like he was conducting a trade. I was very shocked. I was very humiliated. That’s why I immediately came to complain to the police station. I’m going to Malaysia for an event. I went to dance practice for that event. While I was practising, he came inside. He spoke as though he was part of the event. He spoke to me like he was someone known at the event. He spoke to me personally when I was alone inside. That’s why I have complained. He has spoken like he was conducting a sexual trade, for a favour,” said Amala Paul.
The actress added she felt 'extremely unsafe' after the episode.
The police booked a case against Alagesan under Sections 354A (Sexual harassment), 509 (Uttering any word or making any gesture intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.
Amala Paul has acted in a number of Tamil and Malayalam movies, pairing among others, popular Tamil star Vijay.
