4-day Malabar River Festival commences Thursday

Kozhikode: Around 150 participants, including kayakers from abroad, will take part in the four-day fifth edition of International White Water Kayaking championship to be held at different places in the district from Thursday.

It is organised as part of the "Malabar River Festival - 2017" by the Kerala Tourism department and Kozhikode District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) with technical assistance from Kerala Kayaking Academy and Madras Fun Tools, an official said Wednesday.

The competitions will be held in Chalippuzha, Iruvazhinji and Kuttiyadi rivers in the district which will have participants from various states.

The festival will formally commence Thursday in Kuttiyadi river in Chakkittapara panchyat although the official inauguration will be on the next day at Pulikkayam, the DTPC official said.

Eleven international kayakers from countries including, New Zealand, Germany, Nepal, Italy, USA and Denmark have already arrived in the city while some more were expected to reach Wednesday.
