Indian PC shipments register 48% growth with 5.8M units

New Delhi: Canalys states that Indian PC (personnel computer) shipments have grown 48 per cent in Q1 of 2022, reaching 5.8 million units against a record 5.3 million units in Q3 2021. Also, PC shipments have grown an average of 44 per cent in the last six quarters, despite global supply chain pressures, The Indian Express reports.

Further, shipments slipped past the 5 million unit mark for the third successive quarter. India, at present, contributes 5 per cent of the worldwide PC, when it was 3 per cent 2 years ago.

In desktop and notebook shipments, HP reigns at the top with 34.1 per cent market share, which shipped 1.449 million units in Q1 2022 and made an annual growth of 20.5 per cent. Lenovo follows with a 17.7 per cent market share, which shipped 7,52,000 units and registered a yearly increase of 20.5 per cent. Dell took the third position with 582,000 units, 13.7 per cent market share and 9.1 per cent growth.

Acer came fourth but saw the biggest annual growth of 161.5 per cent, shipping more than 421,000 units, grabbing 9.9 per cent market share. Asus became fifth in line with 265,000 shipments, 6.2 per cent market share and 58.8 per cent annual growth.

Canalys's report states that shipping 3.4 million units, notebooks became the largest in the category and marked a 36 per cent year on year (YoY) increase. Desktop shipments crossed 880,000 units, which is 64 per cent over the figure in Q1 2021. Tablets showed the highest growth, shipping 1.6 million units at a 69 per cent YoY increase, and this was attributed to the increasing government orders after two years of the pandemic.

Research analyst at Canalys, Jash Shah, said that 18 per cent of all the PCs sold in India were manufactured locally and it reduced the Indian PC market's vulnerability to black swan events in China. He is optimistic that the growth will continue to sustain in the coming few quarters.
