New Delhi:Six weeks after its launch, the new income tax portal of India is still experiencing technical glitches.

Key utilities like e-proceedings and digital signature certificates are still not ready, say chartered accountants.

The new portal 'www.incometax.gov.in' was launched on June 7.

Chartered accountants across the country have reported that overseas firms are experiencing problems in logging into the portal. Sandeep Bhalla, partner at Dhruva Advisors LLP, told The News Minute that it is unclear how NRIs who don't have PAN in India are supposed to register DSC.

Currently, 8-10 lakhs of people are logging in to the new portal. Around 40,000 ITRs are being filed every day. The portal has already received 64 lakh Aadhaar-PAN linkage requests. Around 4.87 e-PANs were issued and 1.32 lakh DSC registrations have been completed.

Form- 3 under 'Vivad se Vishwas Scheme' is not visible, and users are unable to file I-T returns for past years. The Income Tax report said that it has continuously engaged with the developer Infosys to solve the problems, reported The News Minute.

Mukul Bagla, Chairman of Industry chamber PHDCCI's Direct Taxes Committee, said that the glitches are causing problems to the income tax work of taxpayers and tax professionals. In some cases, OTP is not reaching the taxpayer for the e-verification of ITR.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) told TNM that the department is in contact with Infosys to resolve the pending issues and to make available all balance functionalities at the earliest. It is also working on corrective measures based on feedback from taxpayers, tax professionals, and representatives of ICAI.

Infosys said that the firm is in its "silent period". "Clarity on the income tax matter was provided at our recently concluded AGM". Infosys was given the contract to develop the next-generation income tax filing system in 2019. The goal was to reduce the processing time for returns from 63 days to one day and expedite refunds.
