New Delhi: Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Wednesday that the Cabinet has approved production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme worth Rs 12,195 crore for telecom equipment manufacturing.

After the cabinet meeting, Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad while briefing the media said the government is positioning India as a global powerhouse for manufacturing, and has created an environment conducive for ease of doing business.

The allocation of Rs 12,195 will, as per the Cabinet approval, be granted as a production-linked incentive (PLI) for telecom equipment manufacturing. The government expects that the scheme will lead to Rs 2,44,200 crore incremental production of telecom equipment in the country in the next five years, Prasad said.

The minister added that the government will also come up soon with a similar PLI scheme for production of laptops and tablet PCs.
