Deepak Gupta, a relative of BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover, has been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police in connection with a significant fraud case involving the misappropriation of company funds.

The arrest occurred on the night of September 19, following an investigation that revealed Gupta’s role in acknowledging fictitious deliveries, leading to payments made to non-existent companies.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, EOW, Raja Banthia, Gupta was questioned before his arrest, which was carried out in accordance with legal procedures. Gupta, who served as the Procurement Head at BharatPe, is linked to an FIR filed in May 2023 against Grover, his wife Madhuri Jain, and other family members.

Gupta's involvement in the case has been corroborated by the interrogation of another accused, Amit Bansal, who was arrested previously and is currently in judicial custody.

The allegations indicate that Ashneer Grover, his wife, and several associates were involved in a scheme that caused a wrongful loss of approximately Rs 81 crore to BharatPe through fabricated documents and payments to non-existent vendors.

In December 2022, BharatPe filed a criminal complaint against Grover, his wife, and multiple family members, including Gupta, alleging criminal misappropriation of the company's assets.
