Amul slashes prices of 700+ products; butter, ghee cheaper from Sept 22
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets dairy products under the Amul brand, announced on Saturday a reduction in retail prices of more than 700 product packs, including ghee, butter, ice cream, bakery items, and frozen snacks. The move comes as GCMMF decided to pass on the benefits of the recent GST rate cut to consumers.
The revised prices will come into effect from September 22, 2025.
In a statement, GCMMF said the revision spans multiple product categories, including butter, ghee, UHT milk, ice cream, cheese, paneer, chocolates, bakery items, frozen dairy and potato snacks, condensed milk, peanut spread, and malt-based drinks.
Some of the key price changes include:
- Butter (100 gm): Reduced from Rs 62 to Rs 58
- Ghee (per litre): Cut by Rs 40 to Rs 610
- Amul processed cheese block (1 kg): Reduced by Rs 30 to Rs 545
- Frozen paneer (200 gm): New MRP Rs 95, down from Rs 99
GCMMF highlighted that the price cuts are aimed at encouraging greater consumption of dairy products such as ice cream, cheese, and butter, given that per capita consumption in India remains relatively low, presenting a significant growth opportunity.
The federation, owned by 36 lakh farmers, added that the reduction in prices is expected to boost demand across its product range, thereby driving growth in turnover.
Earlier, Mother Dairy had also announced price cuts on its products, effective from September 22.
