Three arrested over attack on health workers during MR vaccination drive

Malappuram: Police on Friday arrested three persons for attacking women health workers at Athippatta, near Edayur in Valancheri in the district during a Measles Rubella vaccination drive in the area.
Mubashir, Faisal and Thaswan were arrested Friday morning under non-bailable charges. The police are in search of the others involved in the attack.
The incident happened Thursday evening when a team of health workers were conducting a vaccination drive at GLP School, Athipatta.
A nurse identified as Shyamala Bai, who works at the Edayur Primary Health Centre, was manhandled by a group protesting against the vaccination. The gang also damaged Shyamala’s mobile phone.
She was admitted in Hospital with fractured hand.
The attackers alleged that the children were vaccinated without their parents’ consent.
As soon as incident took place, Valanchery police reached the school and registered a case based on a complaint lodged by Dr Ali Mohammed, who led the medical camp.
