Kuwait welcomes US-Iran agreement on ceasefire

Kuwait has welcomed the memorandum of understanding reached between the United States and Iran, describing it as a positive step towards reducing tensions in the region.

In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the agreement provides for an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations, guarantees freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and addresses a number of outstanding issues between the two sides.

The ministry praised the efforts of Pakistan, Qatar and other friendly and fraternal countries that helped facilitate the understanding and narrow differences between the parties.

Kuwait reaffirmed its support for resolving disputes through dialogue and peaceful means in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.

The ministry expressed hope that the agreement would open the door to broader efforts to address remaining issues through sustainable solutions based on mutual respect, confidence-building, good neighbourly relations and non-interference in the internal affairs of states.

It said such steps would help strengthen regional and international security and stability while ensuring continued freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Kuwait also called on all parties to approach future negotiations in a positive and constructive manner to support cooperation, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond.
