Woman & 19-yr-old son arrested over 8-yr-old's murder

Srinagar: The Kupwara police in Jammu and Kashmir informed the arrest of a woman and her son for abducting and killing an eight-year-old, NDTV reported.

After charging the arrestees with abduction and murder, the Police said that they believe that the motive behind the crime is the enmity the accused woman had with the dead child's father.

The body of the child, Talib Hussain, was found in a forest area. He was missing for three weeks from his house at Awoora village.

At first, the belief was that the child must have been caught by some wild animals since the village was nearby forests. Police had initiated immense searches at forests, water bodies etc., in the area. Later, the Police received clues during the investigation about the kidnapping and the murder. They questioned many and finally reached the woman, Shahnaza Begum and her 19-year-old son Amir Ahmad. Many people had protested, demanding heavy punishment for this behind the child's death.

As per the Police, Shahnaza made her son kidnap the child and kill him. After the killing, the body was dumped in the forest.

Senior Superintendent of Kupwara police said that the accused led them to where the body was buried in the forest. It was recovered later, conducted the postmortem and handed over to its family, he said.

The accused woman's teenage daughter had died in mysterious circumstances a few years ago, Police said they are investigating whether that death has any relation to the child's murder.
