Hyderabad: A 16-year-old boy from Vizianagaram district allegedly killed his mother with the help of a friend, stole gold and cash, and fled across several cities before being arrested, police said.
The case emerged after the suspicious death of 34-year-old Spandana in Rajam village on May 4. Investigators say evidence later pointed to her son, who had recently finished Class 10, and another minor. Police allege the teenager resented repeated warnings from his mother after school authorities told her he had written a love letter; the boy reportedly wanted to leave home and become a “mafia don.”
Authorities say the pair called at the house when Spandana was alone, stole about 9.5 sovereigns of gold and Rs 5,000, and stabbed her 16 times. They wrapped the body in a saree and dumped it in a nearby pond.
After the killing, the two minors traveled through Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati to evade capture. Police arrested them near Chilakalapalem while they were reportedly en route to Palasa. Further investigation is ongoing.
