Parent withdraws complaint after apology over Kalma row in Hyderabad school

The father of the Class 2 student who was assigned homework to learn the Kalma and Surah Fatiha has accepted the school's apology and decided to withdraw the complaint, saying the family wanted to resolve the issue.

The controversy erupted after the parents of the six-year-old student at a private school in Hyderabad alleged that their son had been asked to learn an Islamic verse as part of his homework, Siasat Daily reported.

According to the parents, the teacher had written "Read Surah Fatiha" and "Read Kalma" in the student's school diary under the subject "Deeniyath."

In a letter addressed to the school principal, the parents said they had resolved the issue related to the homework assigned on July 15, accepted the teacher's apology, and expected the mistake not to be repeated. They also expressed hope for full cooperation from the school management and teachers, and requested the authorities to withdraw the complaints.

Speaking to Siasat.com, the student's father, G. Rajashekhar, said the decision to withdraw the complaint was taken by the family themselves.

Meanwhile, the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) demanded action against the private school and urged the Telangana government to investigate whether the incident was part of a larger conspiracy.

Claiming that the incident had sparked widespread anger among people in Hyderabad, VHP international president Alok Kumar called for a thorough probe to identify those responsible.
