Demolition of Hyderabad masjid triggers protest; AIMIM MLA detained

Hyderabad: A mosque in Chintalmet, Hyderabad, faced partial demolition on Monday amid a bitter land dispute, triggering protests by AIMIM leaders and the detention of Bahadurpura MLA Mohammed Mubeen, according to a report by Siasat.

Revenue officials, accompanied by police and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation personnel, arrived at Masjid-e-Mohammadia in Rajendranagar mandal and reportedly began demolishing a boundary wall. While one section of residents claimed the property belonged to a temple, the mosque’s supporters said that the land belonged to the Waqf Board.

Mubeen and other AIMIM leaders protested at the site, demanding a joint survey by the Endowment Department before authorities took further action. Police presence was intensified to prevent tensions from escalating.

AIMIM corporator Mohammed Nawazuddin Ahmed claimed the mosque was built legally around 18 months ago on a 300-square-yard plot, with its boundaries marked at the time. He alleged that demolition efforts had begun the previous week but were halted after party leaders demanded a land survey.

Ahmed said documents supporting the mosque’s claim had been submitted to Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar and the mandal revenue officer. He accused the Endowment Department of colluding with alleged land grabbers to take control of the property, naming two local residents, Gujjar Ghouse and Nasingh.

According to Ahmed, police detained Mubeen and his supporters during Monday’s protest and took them to Ramgopalpet Police Station.

Videos circulating on social media showed Mubeen confronting officials over the proposed demolition and questioning why action was being taken without the promised joint survey. Another video showed police detaining Ahmed as protesters raised slogans against alleged police excesses.
