Srinagar: An Indian soldier was martyred in an attack by Pakistan's Border Action Team in the Kamakari sector of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. The army said that the enemy's infiltration attempt was defeated, but four people, including the captain, were injured. A Pakistani infiltrator was also killed in the firing.
The attack took place on an army post near the Line of Control around 2:30 am. The encounter lasted for several hours. Official sources said that the two infiltrators went back to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after the Indian Army's strong retaliation.
Meanwhile, a three-member group of infiltrators hurled grenades and fired at an Indian post in the Trehgam sector of the north Kashmir district.
The injured soldiers, including the captain, have been shifted to the base hospital. Sources said the condition of one of the injured soldiers is critical. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited the area earlier this week and reviewed the preparedness of the forces to deal with infiltration and terrorist attacks.
It was almost two weeks ago, four army personnel, including an officer who was critically injured during a nightly gunfight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, succumbed to injuries.
Officials earlier said that five security personnel, including an army officer and a policeman, were critically injured in a gunfight with terrorists in a forest area in Doda during the night intervening July 15 and July 16. "The encounter had started after the troops of Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Police launched a CASO (Cordon & Search Operation) at Dhari Gate Urarbagi in Desa forest area around 7.45 pm yesterday (Monday). Four army personnel, including an officer and a policeman, were injured in the exchange of fire, which initially lasted for over 20 minutes," officials had said in a statement.
