Hyderabad: Tension flared at Janapriya Lake Front Society in Kapra on the outskirts of Hyderabad after a verbal spat over an unregistered tenant escalated when the housing society managing committee secretary allegedly called a resident couple “Pakistani”, a confrontation that was filmed and widely shared on social media.
Video of the incident shows a man angrily rejecting the label, saying his grandfather served as a Subedar in the Indian Army and insisting, “Don’t call me Pakistani, I am an Indian.” In the footage, the secretary questions the couple’s presence in the society and is heard asking why they were staying there if they were “Pakistani”. The couple said the secretary also accused them of being in the country to plant bombs.
Police said the dispute began as a tenancy issue. A Jawahar Nagar police official told reporters that the secretary had confronted a tenant, Naseema, for permitting a couple to stay in her flat without informing the society and for not paying rent for three months. The argument escalated and the contentious remark was made.
Officers who attended the scene counselled both sides. The secretary later apologised and the couple agreed to relocate; no case was registered and no physical violence was reported.
