Centre clears Rs 79,000 crore defence procurement for precision strikes and drone defence

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved defence procurement proposals worth around Rs 79,000 crore to strengthen the operational capabilities of the armed forces.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the Acceptance of Necessity was granted during a meeting held on December 29, 2025.

The approvals cover key acquisitions for the Army, Navy, and Air Force, aimed at enhancing precision strike capability, air defence, surveillance, and battlefield awareness.

For the Indian Army, the cleared procurements include the Loiter Munition System for Artillery Regiments, Low Level Light Weight Radars, Long Range Guided Rocket Ammunition for the Pinaka Multiple Launch Rocket System, and the Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System Mk-II.

The loiter munitions will enable precision strikes on tactical targets, while the radars will detect and track low-flying unmanned aerial systems.

The upgraded Pinaka rockets will improve range and accuracy, and the drone detection system will help protect vital assets in both tactical and hinterland areas.

For the Indian Navy, approvals were granted for the procurement of Bollard Pull Tugs, High Frequency Software Defined Radios, and the leasing of High Altitude Long Range Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems. These platforms will support harbour operations, enhance secure communications during missions, and provide sustained intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance across the Indian Ocean Region.

The Indian Air Force will acquire the Automatic Take-off Landing Recording System, Astra Mk-II air-to-air missiles, Full Mission Simulators for the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, and SPICE-1000 long-range guidance kits. These systems will improve flight safety, strengthen air combat capability, enhance pilot training, and boost precision strike capacity.

The Ministry said the approvals reflect the government’s focus on strengthening national defence preparedness and advancing indigenous military capabilities.
