Uttar Pradesh Police have launched an investigation and registered a case after a video surfaced on social media showing a group of men assaulting two Muslim youths and forcing them to chant a religious slogan.
The incident occurred in the Faramapur area under the jurisdiction of the Chanda police station in Sultanpur district. The footage depicts five to six individuals beating the victims, using derogatory language, and questioning their presence in the country while demanding they chant "Jai Shree Ram". Despite repeated pleas for mercy from the victims, the assault continued.
Following social media cognisance and a subsequent written complaint, local authorities identified the victims as 17-to-18-year-old Aftab Alam and his relative, Zeeshan. The Station House Officer at the Chanda Police Station confirmed that an First Information Report (FIR) has been filed based on a complaint by Alam's father. The case names individuals identified as Saksham Pandey, Chandan, and Vicky Jaisal, alongside four unidentified suspects. Police teams have been assembled to apprehend those involved.
The FIR includes multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), encompassing joint criminal liability, intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, and wrongful restraint. Observers noted that specific statutory provisions relating to hate speech or hate crimes were not invoked in the initial filing. The Circle Officer for Lambhua stated that two suspects have been formally identified so far, and active law enforcement efforts remain underway to arrest all individuals connected to the assault.
