New Delhi: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Saturday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi order the registration of an FIR over a ‘shuddhikaran’ or purification ceremony reportedly held at the venue of a public rally addressed by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in Haldwani earlier this month.
Calling the episode a “crime”, Gandhi said it reflected the mindset of the BJP and the RSS towards Dalits.
He alleged that the incident demonstrated that the BJP-RSS did not want Dalits to advance in society, live with dignity or achieve success.
“We are demanding justice for the Congress president. Give the Congress president justice in Uttarakhand. It is the duty of the central and state governments to ensure that Kharge gets justice,” Gandhi said at a press conference in New Delhi.
