Hyderabad minor's rape: 1 person arrested; 3 of 5 accused minors

Hyderabad: The Telangana police arrested one person in the gang-rape case of a 17-yr-old here on Saturday evening. They added that among the five accused in the case, three were minors, NDTV reports.

However, police asserted that the state home minister's son was not involved in the case.

Police said that the survivor couldn't reveal anything about the assailants but a single name. They gathered CCTV footage and despatched special teams to arrest culprits. The footage gave a clue to five suspects along with the survivor's statement, police added.

In the footage, the girl was standing with the suspects, who offered to drop her. They took her into the car, parked it outside a posh neighbourhood and raped her in turns while others guarded the vehicle outside, police said.

After registering a case of "outraging modesty" initially, the police later changed it to a case rape, adding charges under POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences).

The Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao called for immediate strict action and demanded not to spare anyone involved irrespective of their statuses, NDTV reports. Meanwhile, Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader K Kavitha said that in the sad and shameful incident, the party stands by the family. On Twitter, she expressed her confidence in the state police and added that they have a track record of Zero Tolerance when it comes to Women's safety.
