'Thor: Love and Thunder' was 'too silly' despite its huge success: Chris Hemsworth

Los Angeles: Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth better known as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) franchises has made an interesting revelation.

The 39-year-old actor recently admitted that his movie 'Thor: Love and Thunder' in which he plays the Norse god of thunder despite being a huge commercial success, was a bit “too silly”.

The fourth installment in MCU Thor movies was a commercial hit grossing over $760 million worldwide at the box office. However, the MCU phase 4 has been heavily criticised in general.

Speaking to GQ Magazine, Hemsworth addressed the criticism regarding the movie. The actor said that some Marvel fans were turned off by the humour in director Taika Waititi’s script.

'Thor 4' was criticised for its overreliance on childish humour, bad VFX, Thor's portrayal of being overly stupid, bad writing and in general undercutting much of the movie's dark moments.

"I think we just had too much fun. It just became too silly," he said, further adding "It's always hard being in the centre of it and having any real perspective... I love the process, it's always a ride. But you just don't know how people are going to respond”. Hemsworth said.

The former soap star said even his kids got in a few barbs. 'It’s a bunch of eight-year-olds critiquing my film. "We thought this one had too much humour, the action was cool but the VFX weren’t as good,”' he recalled of their critique. 'I cringe and laugh equally at it,' he said with good humour.

'I love the fact that I’ve been able to do something fairly different throughout the process. Thor 1 and 2 were their own thing, ‘Thor 3’ and 4 were a very different feel,' he explained.

Hemsworth has portrayed Thor in the MCU since the character's introduction in his 2011 solo film followed by three more instalments as well his presence in the 'Avengers' films and cameo in 'Doctor Strange'.

He has been taking a break from acting after genetic testing showed a risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Chris's latest film, Extraction 2, with Idris Elba and Olga Kurylenko, will debut on Netflix on June 16.
