After Marvel announced Captain America 4, many fans took to social media speculating that Chris Evans will return to the screen to reprise his role as the superhero. At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers passed the mantle to his friend Sam Wilson.
Evans took to Twitter on Saturday to clarify any doubts and support his real-life friend Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson aka the new Captain America.
He tweeted "Sam Wilson is Captain America".
Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson and Chris Evans' Steve Rogers are known for their great onscreen chemistry and loyalty to each other. Wilson aka the Falcon was introduced in the 2014 film Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
When Rogers retired, he told Wilson he cannot think of anyone more suited to take up the shield of Captain America. Disney+ show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier dealt with the story that followed.
In the six-episode series, Wilson was paired with Bucky Barnes played by Sebastian Stan, another one of Roger's lifelong friends.
In an interview with Comicbook.com, Evans said people would like to see Captain America returning the infinity stones to their timeline, a sequence that took place offscreen. He added that his time as Captain America was a "good run" and he is happy with it.
"It is so precious to me. That role means so much to me. So, to revisit it, it would be a tall order."
