Despite being the second-worst performing movie in Marvel Studio's history, Eternals might be getting a sequel. And Chloe Zhao will be returning as director.
Patton Oswalt who voiced Pip the Troll on a short mid-credit sequence of Eternals accidentally revealed the possibility of a sequel on The Today Show. He said he hopes to work on more scenes with Starfox by Harry Styles who also appeared in the sequence.
When asked about his involvement in the MCU, he said "They have announced there is going to be an Eternals sequel. Chloé Zhao is going to direct it. So, hopefully, there will be more adventures of Starfox and Pip."
Starfox aka Eros is the brother of Titan Thanos. Pip was seen introducing him to the Eternals as the great adventurer of Mystery Planet.
Eternals did set the floor for a sequel as it ended with important characters being kidnapped. However, the underwhelming performance of the movie may have affected its future. Contrary to Oswalt's claim, Marvel hasn't made a formal announcement yet. The studio may have been keeping the secret for Disney's D23 Expo in September.
Despite the storylines the movie set up and the massive cast it introduced, Marvel Producer Nate Moore said a sequel is not a must-have.
In the comics, Starfox escaped from his home planet with the dream of becoming a space outlaw. He created Pip to be his companion. The two are thick as thieves and defeated Black Roger, the monarch of the Mystery Planet. In the MCU, his appearance is out of the blue.
In the credit sequence, Starfox shows up in the spacecraft of Eternals with an offer to help Thena (Angelina Jolie), Makari (Lauren Ridloff), and Druig (Barry Keoghan) locate their team.
Another storyline Eternals is likely to explore belongs to Dane Whitman played by Kit Harrington. In the original movie, his role was limited to the supporting cast. He is in possession of the Ebony Blade, a symbiotic divine weapon with the potential to destroy worlds. According to the comics, Dane is the third to bear the superhero title of Black Knight. He is likely to reprise his role in the Blade movie set to release in November 2023.
