New Delhi: Israel's defence minister Yoav Gallant on Sunday said Hamas launched criminal attack indiscriminately targeting ‘women, children and elderly’, adding that it made a ‘grave mistake’.

Following the Saturday morning attack, war broke out at least 22 locations in the region leaving over 200 Israelis and 232 Palestinians dead.

Reacting strongly to Hamas, Yoav Gallant today issued a threat to "change the face of reality" in Gaza.

‘Today, we have seen the face of evil. Hamas launched a criminal attack, without distinguishing between women, children and the elderly. It will realise very quickly that it made a grave mistake. We will change the face of reality in the Gaza Strip,’ Israeli defence minister Yoav Gallant stated.

Amid escalating conflict, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to reduce Hamas strongholds to rubble.

At 6.30 am on Saturday Hamas launched rockets to Israel alongside storming through blockades causing an unexpected mayhem in the nation.

The development marks a new peak in the continuing violence between two forces in the region beginning with the1967 Arab-Israel conflict.

Prime Minister Netanyahu told a stunned nation that ‘Israel is now at war’, signaling at retaliation.

He alerted the people of Gaza about the impending retaliation, saying ‘I'm telling the people of Gaza: get out of there now, because we're about to act everywhere with all our force.’

‘We'll strike them to the bitter end and avenge with force this black day they brought on Israel and its people.’ He was quoted as saying.

As another episode of raging war grip the region, the UN Security Council announced an emergency meeting on Sunday.
