Israel escalates offensive in Gaza overnight; UN agency decries
text_fieldsGaza: Israel forces continued pounding Gaza on Monday and killed four people in two separate air raids on the “safe zone” of al-Mawasi. Another attack in the area killed at least seven people, and rescue efforts are going on, Al Jazeera reported.
Israel has escalated their offensive in the past one day, targeting schools and hospitals in Gaza. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNWRA) decried Israel stepping up its offensive.
In al-Mawasi, there were multiple attacks during the night, and Israel targeted refugee tents here.
Israel forces ordered Kamal Adwan Hospital in North Gaza to empty, but the director of the health care centre said that it was impossible for around 400 civilians, including babies who needed oxygen, to be inside.
Hamas called the Israel attacks on Kamal Adwan Hospital a “crime against humanity”.
The militant group said that the Israeli forces issued threats to remove patients, the injured and displaced people from the Kamal Adwan hospital. It said that Israel’s move is a crime of ethnic cleansing and forced displacement amid international silence and inaction, Al Jazeera reported.
The group appealed to Islamic nations as well as governments and global organisations to take immediate action to support the Palestinian people, protect holy sites and liberate their land from Israeli occupation.
So far, the war in Gaza has killed at least 45,259 people and wounded 1,07,627 since October 7, last year. The war also killed at least 1,139 people in Israel on the day when Hamas carried out a lighting attack inside Israeli territory. Hamas had taken more than 200 people into captivity, too.
