New York: Police in New York’s Brooklyn detained a woman after discovering body parts of a man inside a freezer in her apartment.

Following a tip off suggesting body parts might be stored in the apartment of Heather Stines, 45, police searched the place and came across a man's severed head and other body parts, according to NY Post.

New York Police Department Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said efforts are on to identifying the person, adding ‘We have a head. We have some limbs. As of right now, it seems like we have the whole body.’

The refrigerator was found taped-up in an effort to stop the odour leaking out.

Kenny said that a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Amy Stines, the 79-year-old aunt of Heather Stines, said that she could not ‘fathom this’, adding that her niece had been struggling with drug problems and moved from Kentucky to escape the lifestyle.

Heather Stines, who currently living with her husband in a Brooklyn apartment, earns her keep by cleaning.

Amy Stines claimed she received no response when she had tried to reach out to her niece on Sunday.

Heather Stines' husband, Nicholas McGee, is doing time in Virginia jail for attempting to cash a fraudulent check.

He was due to appear in court on Tuesday morning, according to his sister-in-lawCatherine McGee.
