New Delhi: Russia's Foreign Miniter Sergey Lavrov is likely to visit India this week. The visit is gaining importance after India abstained on a resolution pushed by Russia against Ukraine at UN on Thursday.

Only days before Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi visited India, as part of resolving issues between the two neighbours.

Russia's resolution, reportedly being critical of Ukraine, failed as it did not get required nine votes. Earlier India abstained on Europe-led resolutions criticizing Russia's invasion in Ukraine. Thursday's abstention confirmed India's apparent neutral position, probably baffling Russia.

As well as remaining aloof from Russian resolution, India hours later didn't vote on another resolution drawn by France and Mexico condemning Russia. However, it received 140 votes.

Russia appears to be facing the heat of the war it is waging in Ukraine. Despite being pounded to the marrow, a defiant Ukraine continues to stand up to the monstrous Russian forces. Now Russian has a diminishing leeway in the face of mounting criticism internationally.

As voices from Europe and USA continually condemn Russia's invasion, just as a few counties including India remain neutral. However, India frequently urges parties to the crisis to resolve the issues through talks.

Last week, US President called India's response to Russian invasion as "somewhat shaky".The president however wouldn't openly criticize India.

Australia and Japan, who make up the Quad along with India and the US, have criticised Russia's aggression.

Meanwhile, China voted with Russia in favour of the resolution co-sponsored by Syria, North Korea, and Belarus.
