Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed cooperation on international issues and bilateral ties in Sochi on Wednesday, reports Xinhua news agency.

Referring to the efforts of coordinating positions on Syria and Libya, Putin noted that the Russian-Turkish cooperation in the international arena has been successful. He positively assessed the work of the Russian-Turkish centre for monitoring the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh. It promoted stability and reconciliation in the region, he added.

The work of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline has been successful and continues to operate amid the chaotic situation in the European gas market, he said.

The construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in the Turkish province of Mersin is being conducted as per plan, said both the leaders. Erdogan also noted positive developments in military, trade, economic and political ties between the two countries. He added that peace in Syria is largely dependent on cooperation between Moscow and Ankara.
