Indian student stabbed repeatedly in Sydney; 1 arrested
text_fieldsLucknow: The parents of Indian student knifed in Australia requests Indian government to arrange emergency visa for a family member to meet their son.
Shubham Garg, 28, pursuing a PhD at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, was seriously injured after being knifed 11 times on October 6 when he was getting out of an ATM.
Shubham was wounded in his face, chest and abdomen after a man attacked him for refusing to part with money despite threatening.
After stabbing him the man ran away Shubham somehow reached a nearby house before he was taken to hospital.
Reports say that a 27-year-old man whose more details are not yet known has been arrested for attempted murder. NDTV reported that no evidence of racist motives was linked to the attack.
His parents, living in Agra in Uttar Pradesh, are trying to get a visa for their younger son to travel to Australia, according to NDTV.
Shubham went to Australia on September 1 after graduating from IIT-Madras.
His father Ramniwas Garg told NDTV that the family found out about the attack from his friend after Shubbham was not answering the call
He added that Shubbham underwent 11 surgery in his abdomen, and requested the government to help with his son's treatment.
When they met him, the BJP MP Rajkumar Chahar told that Indian mission in Sydney considering the case "very seriously", according to the report.
Meanwhile a spokesperson for Australian High Commission told NDTV that it is assisting to arrange for a visa to a family member.
