California, US: A Google engineer, working on an algorithm for YouTube, was found ‘spattered with blood’ when police arrived at his home in California with his wife’s body in the bedroom.

The 27-year-old, Liren Chen, is charged with the murder of his wife Xuanyi Yu, and both according to Fox News were employees at the tech giant.

An acquaintance of Chen’s, who called the police, said Chen was not answering calls or door and seen ‘motionless on his knees, had his hands in the air and was staring blankly’.

Afterwards, officers entered the house taking Chen into custody and found his wife's body in the bedroom.

A statement by the district attorney's office at the Santa Clara county said: ‘She had severe blunt force injuries to her head. Chen's right hand was extremely swollen and purple. He had blood on his clothing, legs, arms, and hands and scratches on his arm’.

Chen , who is currently in hospital and yet to be produced in court, faces prison if convicted, the district attorney's office said.

The LinkedIn profile of Liren Chen said he has been a software engineer at Google since March 2020, and was working on an algorithm for YouTube Shorts recommendation.

Xuanyi Yu, who joined Google as a software engineer in 2021, previously worked at Amazon.

Both Liren Chen and Xuanyi Yu are alumni of a Beijing university, according to their profile.
