'Go back to India': Indian-American women threatened in Texas
text_fieldsNew Delhi: A woman in Plano, North Texas was arrested Thursday on charges of assault and hate crime after a video showed her hurling racist remarks at a group of Indian-American women outside the Sixty Vines restaurant.
In the five-and-a-half minute video Esmeralda Upton was seen yelling at Indian-American women before striking one person in the face as well as lunging at the phones of the other women who were filming Upton.
Upton faces charges on assault, bodily injury and terrorist threats after she asked Indian American women to go back to India and threatened to shoot them. She was being held on a $10,000 bond.
Police say the incident has been currently investigated treating it as hate crime; also, additional charges are likely to be imposed on the woman, according to reports.
The video that was shared on Facebook late Wednesday night ran viral on Reddit on Thursday.
The video showed Upton, claiming to be a Mexican American herself, yelling at the women to "go back to India".
She then reaches into her purse while asking women who were filming her, "Turn the goddamn phone off or I swear to god I'll shoot your a**."
One of the women fired back at Upton asking if she was Mexican why she would not she go back to Mexico.
