Diarrhea causes emergency flight landing and ‘thorough cleaning’ in US
text_fieldsNew York: A Delta flight traveling from Atlanta to Barcelona on Friday required emergency landing and thorough cleaning after a passenger’s diarrhea affected the plane “all the way through".
The plane had to take a U-turn just two hours into the journey from Atlanta, Georgia to Barcelona, Spain, New York Post reported.
‘This is a biohazard issue. We've had a passenger who's had diarrhea all the way through the airplane, so they want us to come back to Atlanta,’ a pilot was heard informing traffic control. However, the passenger who suffered extreme diarrhea was not identified.
Back in Atlanta again, all passengers and crew were transferred to another flight as the plane required a ‘thorough cleaning’.
The flight was delayed by eight hours following the incident, according to Flightradar24.
It is not known if the passenger who suffered gastrointestinal problem continued journey on the second flight to Spain.
Delta officials confirmed ‘medical issue’ on the flight which caused emergency landing.
Authorities have not given reasons for the passenger’s medical emergency.
‘'Our teams worked as quickly and safely as possible to thoroughly clean the airplane and get our customers to their final destination. We sincerely apologize to our customers for the delay and inconvenience to their travel plans,’ a Delta spokesperson was quoted as saying.
