Memes and trending hashtags, such as #RIPTwitter and #GoodbyeTwitter, have been making rounds on social media following Twitter owner Elon Musk's announcement of temporary restrictions on users, limiting the number of tweets they can read in a day.

Musk cited the extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation as the reason for limiting the number of tweets users can read in a day, as these activities were adversely affecting the overall performance of Twitter for regular users. As a result, unverified accounts are now restricted to viewing up to 1,000 posts per day.

However, many users found Musk's explanation arbitrary and questioned whether the move was a ploy to drive users towards paying for Twitter Blue subscriptions. The perception that this decision was a means to monetize the platform fuelled the backlash even further.

Amidst the growing discontent, former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey weighed in on the situation. Known for his occasional criticism of Musk's leadership at Twitter in the past, Dorsey acknowledged the challenges of running the social media giant. He tweeted, "Running Twitter is hard. I trust that the team is doing their best under the constraints they have, which are immense." Dorsey further suggested exploring the adoption of censorship-resistant open protocols like Bitcoin and nostr to help preserve the open internet.

Initially, Musk had announced a viewing limit of 600 posts for unverified users. However, in response to the backlash and users threatening to abandon Twitter for alternative platforms, he later increased the limit to 800 and then 1,000 posts. Some users interpreted this adjustment as an attempt to address the mounting criticism.

As the restrictions took effect, users began sharing strategies to maximize their limited access to Twitter. They aimed to make the most of the platform despite the viewing limitations, showcasing their determination to remain active participants in the Twitterverse.
