The update states that since the BJP assumed national office in 2014, state and central laws have increasingly disadvantaged religious minorities by excluding Muslims from citizenship benefits and enforcing anti-conversion and cattle-slaughter prohibitions with severe penalties, lengthy imprisonment and alleged misuse by law-enforcement agencies.
