New Delhi: PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, responsible for explaining to the parliament on Delhi riots, were conspicuously absent from both houses yesterday.

Speaker Om Birla had been absent for two days. He had earlier stated that discussion on the issue wouldn’t be allowed until the Holi festival was over.

Where he should have already visited the trouble-torn areas, Amit Shah hasn’t yet deigned to do so.

Meanwhile, the government had seven congress lawmakers suspended, as it is trying to deflect public attention to Covid 19 fears.

The move is to extend the debate in the houses until heat of protest dissipates.

Notices by opposition parties for discussing Delhi riots have been rejected en bloc, throwing to the wind the democratic values.

However, the government allowed time for discussing the threat posed by Covid 19.

Meanwhile, the Opposition still demands Amit Shah’s resignation over Delhi riots, which claimed close to fifty lives.
