The Tablighi Markaz in Nizamuddin, Delhi

"

New Delhi:    31 Tablighi workers, who had been admitted to Lok Nayak Hospital have been discharged after they tested negative for Covid.

Two Keralites, one each from Kollam and Kottayam were among the discharged.  All of them have been moved to another building outside the hospital complex.   They were given a warm farewell with a dinner offered by the Chief Medical Officer.  They had been brought to Lok Nayak hospital on 31 March from the Markaz.

The Delhi government and police had taken control of the Tabligh headquarters amidst a scary propaganda by the media about the Tablighi movement across the country. Out of the 2,000 residents there,  about 500 were shifted to hospital being classified as suspect cases, although they showed no symptoms.  The rest of the group were moved to different government housing complexes.

Those who were so accommodated in such places were not subjected to blood test  even after a week.   It was only after this fact was highlighted by some media that the medical personnel were prepared to arrange the blood test for them,  including the ones whose result has now turned out to be negative in the latest batch.

They were Tablighi workers who got stranded in the compound as a result of the announcement of countrywide lockdown on 24 March.  The government of Delhi and Delhi police first detained them inside the compound and later evacuated them.

Out of the 57 Keralites who had attended the Nizamuddin event,  57 had reached Kerala by 12 March.  And only one of them has tested positive for Covid.
