Trinamul's Mahua Moitra makes a powerful dissenting note in House
text_fieldsNew Delhi: First-time Trinamul Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Tuesday made an insightful speech in the parliament piecing together signs in India today indicating where the nation would be heading for.
The first of those seven signs she pointed at referring to a poster in the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is the powerful and continuing nationalism.
This superficial but xenophobic nationalism is narrow and divisive that would have citizen thrown out of their homes as illegal immigrants.
Thus people who lived for 50 years in the nation have to prove their nationality. The second sign is the all-pervasive hate crimes in the nation; the third is about the subjugation of mass media. The fourth is the obsessive idea of national security and identification of enemies.
The other three more points she made are intertwining of government and religion, disdain towards intellectuals and the arts, and the last sign is erosion of independence in electoral system.
