Kolkata: A Muslim youth in his 20s died in Malda district on Friday after having been lynched by a mob on Sunday.

A group of people called Sanaullah Sheikh to the Baishnabnagar market, about a kilometre from his village Chak Meherdi.

He was asked to start a bike to make it like he was stealing it and then the youth was attacked by five or six people, reports say.

Bappa Ghosh, who was previously a CPM activist but now associated with BJP, allegedly led the group that attacked Sheikh.

Mr. Sheikh lived in the poor neighbourhood of Chak Meherdi with his three children, wife and mother.
