Karti Chidambaram flies to London after midnight bail
text_fieldsChennai: Karti P. Chidambaram, son of former Union Minister P. Chidambaram, succeeded in flying to London along with his family after a midnight hearing in Madras High Court.
The hearing was held during the intervening night between Saturday and Sunday. The plea was allowed after the Income Tax department agreed to keep an arrest warrant, issued against Karti, in abeyance till June 28.
The court recorded an undertaking given by Senior Standing Counsel for IT department, that the warrant shall not be executed since the petitioner had given in writing that he shall appear before the investigation officers in Chennai on June 28.
I-T department had initiated actions against the former Minister's wife Nalini Chidambaram, son Karti and daughter-in-law Srinidhi Karti Chidambaram under the Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) Imposition of Tax Act of 2015 for having jointly purchased an immovable property in Cambridge.
